Bio: Hi there! Nice to meet you! I’m Marcus, I’m a gay second-generation Chinese settler. My commitment to this work emerged from seeing how cultural expectations can collide with queerness, how navigating spiritual identity can affect one’s sense of meaning and belonging, and how identity, place, and systems of power shape our sense of self. As a student counsellor I offer sessions starting at $30 a session and am working under clinical supervision. I am passionate about walking alongside young adults and individuals, including those from BIPOC and queer communities as they navigate identity, cultural identity and belonging, spiritual and religious complexity, stress, anxiety, grief, reconnecting with joy and life transitions. I believe therapy honors the truth you already carry within you, and that your voice and lived experience lead the way to healing. My goal is to co-create a space for you to reconnect with your wisdom, build self-insight, and move towards what feels authentic to you. In my seven years of nonprofit and philanthropy work, I’ve provided peer support to youth who survived childhood trauma, journeyed with folks who have ADHD, and offered care to low-income families. I also advocate for those in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside facing poverty, addiction, and housing insecurity through my work in fundraising. Through these experiences, I’ve come to see how belonging and connection are central to healing, and how a person’s path is influenced by the broader systems and environments one lives in. My therapeutic approach is not only trauma-informed and anti-oppressive, but also warm and playful – welcoming humor into the space, while working alongside you to build a space that can also hold the depth of healing that arises. I work integratively, firmly grounded in a Person-Centred approach while drawing from IFS parts work, Somatic Awareness, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am also able to offer clinical hypnosis to help relieve stress and bodily tension while anchoring focus on your therapeutic goals and provide psychoeducation where helpful. You can expect each session to be collaborative: we begin by checking in, decide together what feels most important to explore, and close with grounding or somatic practices so you leave feeling supported and resourced. Outside of counselling, I love playing video games with friends, learning my favourite songs on electric bass, going to the gym, and spamming people with funny memes.
