Pronouns: she/her
Located In: Toronto
Session Format: Online, Telephone

Bio: Shé:kon! Jeanine ionkiàts, and I am a turtle clan woman and Registered Social Worker from Tyendinaga (MBQ member) and a former youth peer worker (since 2008). As a Lenape (Moraviantown) and Kanien’kehá:ka femme with lived experience, I have known and seen how people have been harmed by a wide range of systems or institutions, including but not limited to: educational systems, energy and materials extraction, CAS, medical, religious institutions or family systems. I know when one has had so many experiences of distrust, it can be so hard to send that email or make that phone call – please know that if you reach out I try to make our first consult as simple and encouraging as possible.

My sessions are a collaborative process in which together we can find language and meanings that make sense to you and your experiences. I strongly believe in offering liberating and non-pathologizing support, and my therapy modalities reflect this.

In my private practice (since 2022) I incorporate both Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am also an EMDR trained practitioner (Institute for Creative Mindfulness), to support people in processing their traumatic experiences, including understanding their experiences of dissociation. In my background as a peer facilitator and peer coach (2017-2018 at Stella’s Place) I am also knowledgeable about Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

You absolutely deserve to have your strengths, fierceness and your grief and anger honoured.
I encourage that in you which has been repressed, ignored or silenced.
I believe in your creativity and your multiple ways of surviving and being human.
I believe you deserve support that makes you feel seen and heard.
I encourage your baby steps or big leaps of faith (or revolt!).

If any of this speaks to you, feel free to go to my website for additional info and to fill out my contact form to request a consult. I look forward to meeting you and hearing what you have to share. Niá:wen’ko:wa!
