Bio: My name is Deema, and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor and the co-founder of Nomii Therapy & Wellness in North Vancouver. I’m a Palestinian therapist who understands that our mental health doesn’t exist separately from our culture, family, relationships, identity, and the worlds we move through.

I work primarily with BIPOC, immigrant, and second-generation adults who may feel caught between different versions of themselves — navigating cultural expectations, family dynamics, relationships, belonging, or the pressure to be “everything to everyone.” My clients are often people navigating the weight of the world and it’s current events, the guilt of their lived experiences compared to that of their ancestors, identity and bi-cultural challenges, and relationship difficulties.

My work is heavily centred around relationships and relational traumas both within the context of individual and couples counselling. I’m particularly passionate about supporting people who have learned to prioritize everyone else’s needs while losing touch with their own.

My work is relationship-focused and trauma-informed, with a particular focus on attachment, anxiety, perfectionism, relational patterns, and cultural or intergenerational experiences. I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment-based and somatic approaches, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

As a Palestinian woman and therapist, my own cultural background shapes how I understand the importance of context, including the things that can be difficult to explain to someone who hasn’t lived them. I also understand the impact of the collective on the individual and how world events shape the way we move through the world. I believe therapy should leave room for the complexity of our identities, our families, and the realities of being a racialized person in the world.

My style is warm, direct, curious, human and light-hearted. My client’s might describe me as a therapist that won’t just sit back and listen, will ask thoughtful questions, challenge patterns, use humour when appropriate and needed, and help you understand not only why you feel and relate the way you do, but how you can begin creating something different.

Therapy with me is a space to feel understood without having to translate or minimize your experience, while still being supported in making meaningful, lasting change.

*My experience outside of clinic hours involves the following: researching the impact immigration has on marriages in the Arab community and best practices for counsellors, co-facilitating EMDR groups for Palestinian and Arabs in the community coping with the ongoing genocide, running work-shops and webinars on relationships and other mental health topics.*
