Bio: Hi, I’m Shamalla, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist of Caribbean heritage and the founder of In-Between Therapy. I provide virtual individual psychotherapy to adults across Ontario who are navigating religious trauma, spiritual and religious harm, faith transitions, religious deconstruction, and the impacts of high-control religious environments.

Questioning or leaving a belief system can affect much more than what you believe. It may bring grief, anger, fear, relief, changes in important relationships, or uncertainty about who you are and what comes next. As a racialized person, these experiences may also be intertwined with culture, family, community, and identity.

My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and grounded in religious neutrality. I will not encourage you toward any particular religion, spiritual belief, or lack of belief. Instead, I offer a space where you can explore your experiences without judgment, pressure, or the expectation that you have everything figured out.

I draw from trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, and DBT-informed skills. Together, we can make sense of what you have experienced, understand how it continues to affect you, strengthen your sense of safety and self-trust, and support you in building a life that feels authentically yours.
