Bio: My name is Cassandra Myers (they/she)he. With an MSW from York University and a BACYC from TMU, I am a critical social worker and practicing therapist who is also an award winning poet. After ten years of experience in sexual violence support, working on crisis lines and chat-based peer support lines with Stella’s Place, Kids Help Phone, LGBTQ Youthline, and TRCC, my MSW thesis captured transformative justice models for QTBIPOC survivors of sexual violence, inventing poetic justice as a real justice theory. For my work I was awarded multiple awards including the Nathanson Fellowship with Osegoode Law School, and the Hillary M. Weston Award in mental health research. This praxis comes from my parallel 10 years as an arts based social work, organized major youth poetry events such as Louder Than A Bomb Toronto, and facilitated poetry programming for all ages with Lakeshore Arts, Workman Arts, Unity Charity and others. For their community work as an arts educator, Cassandra has won the LGTBQ Youthline Award for Outstanding Achievements in Arts.

I have taken the last three years to invest deeply in somatic therapy research and course taking, specifically under Yuji Oka’s Spiral Somatic Praxis. Spiral Somatics are life-changing for people with chronic pain, disabilities, neurodiversity, and mobility restrictions, to expand their somatic experience and movements. Travelling from artist residency to artist residency, exploring disability somatics, survivorship justice theory, and learning to manage my own chronic pain, I am returning to therapeutic praxis using text-based therapy to meet clients more accessibly and reduce the use of ChatGPT as a stand-in therapist. Currently pursuing credentials in EMDR, I deliver my niche modalities for clients who have struggled with CBT, DBT, and non-trauma informed treatments. I hope to fill the gaps for clients who struggle in between appointments with a virtual, on-demand service. Under super vision of Tracey Jastinder Mann MSW, RSW (OCSSSW # 832771).
