Bio: Nava (she/her) is a cisgendered, non-disabled, second-generation Persian immigrant and the daughter of refugees. She lives and practices on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. Nava completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She works alongside individuals who are navigating various concerns, which may include anxiety, depression, experiences of trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, grief, and identity. She uses an integrated person-centered approach that supports clients in exploring their feelings, thoughts, and experiences, with emphasis on collaboration, safety, and intersectional feminist values. She draws on Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, parts work, and somatics, to inform her practice. She has most recently trained in EMDR and can offer this as well. Nava has experience as a front-line worker, supporting survivors of gender-based violence. In doing this work she came to understand the importance and value of using an anti-oppressive framework, and meeting individuals where they are at. She has witnessed firsthand the impact of creating safe spaces that validate and honour the unique experiences of individuals, and the power in fostering trust and resilience.
