Bio: Hello and welcome. I’m Matsui, my pronouns are they/them/theirs, and I’m a queer, trans, nonbinary neurodivergent person of colour with ancestors from Japan, Belgium, France and Ireland. I am grateful to live and work on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam), səl̓ilw̓ ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) Nations. It’s a difficult time to be human in the world today, with many of us struggling to stay present in the face of local and global injustice and suffering. You may be experiencing feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, grief, or rage, and sometimes it may seem easier to numb out or distract yourself from the awfulness of it all. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Caring for ourselves is an act of radical love that helps us stay engaged and committed to larger scale change. If you are seeking healing, growth, and joy in your relationships with yourself, your community, your culture and the world around you, I may be a good fit for you. I am a seasoned counsellor with over a decade of direct experience working with clients with intersectional identities of culture, race, Indigeneity, class, gender, disability, neurodiversity, age, sexuality, and spirituality. My approach is relational and responsive to your needs, and I recognize that who you are matters in this work. I draw from various modalities including Somatic, Mindfulness, DBT and Indigenous Focusing Oriented therapy, and I prioritize culturally relevant and respectful ways of healing over colonized and pathologizing approaches to mental health. My areas of focus include; – Trans-positive and gender affirming care, including hormone and surgical readiness assessments – Resilience and healing from trauma, including intergenerational trauma – Navigating institutional and professional environments as a racialised person – Queer, trans, kink, polyamory and ethical non-nomogamy informed sexual health and wellness – Resisting ableism and living with disability and chronic illness, including long COVID – Grief and loss, including spiritual, ritual and ancestor work – Depression and anxiety – Relationship counselling, including intercultural relationships and alternative sexuality and relationship frameworks My work is grounded in anti-oppression, anti-capitalist and abolitionist values. I believe in mutual and collective care, art, activism, play, and plenty of rest to support individual and collective healing and liberation. If this resonates with you, please feel free to reach out! I offer a free 20 minute consultation.
