Bio: My father is of biracial Chinese ancestry, and my mother is of mixed ancestry from Macau. As a BIPOC clinician, I recognize the duality of colonial history in my family and being a person of colour. I am a first-generation Canadian settler and a child of immigrants. I am an ADHDer, Queer, have Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and have a mobility disability. Most importantly, I am the parent of two amazing neurodivergent children, one of whom has FASD. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor Supervisor, a BC Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, a Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor, and an EMDR practitioner. For almost 20 years, I have specialized in working with neurodivergent folks, particularly those with FASD, children, youth, adults, and their families. I provide neurodivergent empowering, anti-ableist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist individual and group clinical supervision. My teachers have incorporated Eurocentric theories of somatics, interpersonal neurobiology, trauma-informed care, attachment theory, EMDR, expressive arts, and Synergetic Play Therapy. These modalities provided the clinical language that deepened my connections to traditional teachings from my family and my husband’s family, who are Squamish Nation. These teachings have fueled my passion to help people connect to themselves, their cultures, communities, histories, ancestors, and creation. When I started as a clinician, I was stunned and disappointed that many mental health services, organizations, and programs did not meet the needs of neurodivergent clients or those who have experienced complex trauma. I co-founded The FASD Institute with my husband to provide the services we could not find for our family. Some therapy modalities prescribe interventions that do not take into account equity-seeking populations. At the FASD Institute, we believe that counselling should focus on meeting folx where they are and that counsellors should walk alongside clients, honouring intersectionality and empowering lifelong holistic healing.
